Coming Together to Support Our Colleague and His Family for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)

We want to share a fundraising appeal for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity that is particularly close to the hearts of one of our colleagues, Alister Morrice, and his family.
In April 2026, their beloved daughter Ebony tragically passed away from a fatal cardiac arrest at just 17 years old, two days before her 18th birthday. She was living her best life at a concert with her mum when their lives suddenly changed forever. It appears that Ebony passed away from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), testing in particular for Long QT Syndrome. This is a condition that may be treated if diagnosed, which makes their unimaginable loss even more devastating to process.
In Ebony’s memory, her family have set up ‘The Ebs Memorial Fund’ through CRY and are working to turn their heartbreak into something positive, raising funds to support the ongoing work of CRY and arrange a CRY heart screening weekend in our local area where 200 young people between the ages of 14-35 would be screened. Their goal is to raise vital awareness of young cardiac deaths and the importance of identifying undiagnosed heart conditions, while helping young people access potentially life-saving cardiac screening. It is so important to the family to make sure something meaningful is created in the name of their ‘wee one’ who was so special to everyone who knew her.
The loss of a child is something no family should ever have to face. We are incredibly proud to stand beside our colleague and their family in supporting this important cause. Their strength in remembering their daughter and keeping her memory alive by helping protect other young people and families is truly inspiring.
It is amazing to see how our community has come together so far in support of the family and this important cause. Please join us in supporting ‘The Ebs Memorial Fund’ and helping to protect young hearts for the future. Every donation, however small, can help bring this screening opportunity closer and potentially make a life-changing difference.
