ALVANCE British Aluminium in the Scottish Highlands is one of the world’s greenest metal production plants.
Our operations in Lochaber, Fort William deliver sustainable industrial development by integrating aluminium manufacturing, renewable hydropower and responsible land management.
ABA’s aluminium smelter – Britain’s last such plant and a national strategic asset – produces some of the lowest carbon aluminium in Europe.
JAHAMA Highland Estates’ expert land management of the surrounding local estates promotes biodiversity and cuts carbon emissions.
And we engage closely with our local communities to support skilled employment, rural activities and community projects.

Our History
The Lochaber hydroelectric scheme was a hydroelectric power generation project constructed in Lochaber after the First World War in 1929. Like its predecessor at Kinlochleven, it was intended to provide electricity for aluminium production.
