Monitoring smolts in the River Spey
It is that time of year again when we are monitoring smolts in the River Spey!
From the 1st April to the 31st May, we are undertaking another iteration of smolt tracking upstream and downstream of Spey Dam. This week we have successfully deployed the Rotary Screw Trap upstream of Spey Dam (Pic 1) and the Wolf Trap downstream of the Dam (Pic 2).
The traps have both already been successful in capturing some smolts and it is likely with the temperatures expecting to rise, we will see higher numbers in the coming days and weeks.
We look forward to sharing further information about our collaborative projects with the Spey Catchment Initiative, Spey Fishery Board and Atlantic Salmon Trust.
