Peter Dodds

Peter Dodds, our Mechanical Engineer in the hydro team, recently completed his Graduate Apprenticeship with a BEng in Engineering (Design & Manufacture) through Glasgow Caledonian University! A brilliant achievement when working full-time and being a busy dad to three girls and to also complete a degree. Before completing his degree, Peter was supported through the business to complete a HNC in Engineering Systems. We are delighted to have our very own training supervisor, where we invest significantly for our team to benefit from upskilling through a variety of training options.

We caught up with Peter to find out a bit more about both his role and his apprenticeship route.

What is your day-to-day role?

“My day-to-day role is looking after the mechanical aspects of the Hydro Scheme, as well as the daily operations which are carried out by the Hydro Operators.”

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

“In the summer you take off to the hills or a loch with the fishing rod. Far from the truth….”😂

What’s the best/favourite thing about your job?

“The variety of work across the Hydro Scheme, the people I work with and the satisfaction of improving areas and safety throughout the department.”

What advice would you give to someone else considering an apprenticeship?

“I would highly recommend an apprenticeship; it is a great opportunity to learn through hands-on experience while learning the theory in a learning environment. Learning from people who already do the work is the best way to learn new skills and develop yourself.”
