#NoWrongPath – Michael’s Career Pathway
Michael Jones didn’t plan to stay in Fort William long, a 12-month placement as a Dive Technician brought him here, that was 13 years ago.
After studying Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Plymouth with diving as a hobby, Michael joined The Underwater Centre, gaining hands-on experience in the subsea industry. That sparked a shift in direction from practical operations to project delivery.
When the centre closed, he took the opportunity to formalise his experience, gaining a PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification in project management, then joining Argyll and Bute Council as a Graduate Engineer, building his skills in civil engineering and infrastructure planning.
Now Lead Project Engineer at Alvance British Aluminium, Michael manages major site upgrades and has almost completed his Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
Sometimes a one-year placement turns into a whole new chapter.
Whether you’re exploring career opportunities with Alvance British Aluminium or Jahama Highland Estates, or just want to learn more about the work we do, we’d be happy to connect. Email us at lochabercareers@alvancegroup.com to start the conversation.
