#NoWrongPath – George’s story
After finishing school in South Africa, George came to the UK to play semi-professional cricket, including time with Dorchester and Kent.
Once back home, he decided to pursue a career in engineering, completing a multiskilled apprenticeship in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Since then, he’s built-up hands-on experience across a range of industries from constructing asphalt plants to working as an electrical technician in abrasives manufacturing. He later moved into automation engineering, delivering complex projects across several African countries before returning to the UK to join Alvance British Aluminium as a Project Engineer.
A passionate volunteer with heritage steam railways, George was especially excited to support our alumina rail upgrade, combining his love for engineering and rail.
Outside of work, George remains a keen sportsman, playing for the Fort Augustus cricket team and a member of the Lochaber Rugby Club.
